What’s on my homesteading wish list?
It’s that time of year again! The time when we start thinking about what we want Santa to bring us to help us get ready for the upcoming Spring planting season. I’m a small-acreage homesteader, so my thoughts naturally turn to things that will help me in my food growing and preservation efforts. Here’s a short list of some of my favorite items. Hopefully it will give you some ideas for things to put on your own homesteading Christmas list!
OK, Let’s Get To The List!
A Food Dehydrator – A food dehydrator is a great way to preserve your harvest. This Nesco dehydrator gets great reviews and would be perfect for someone who is just getting started with food dehydration. A Good Knife Set – A good set of knives is essential for any kitchen, but it’s especially important if you do a lot of canning and preserving. This set is my very favorite and would make a great addition to any homesteader’s kitchen.
A Canner – A water bath canner is another essential piece of equipment for any serious home canner. This one is perfect for small batch water canning and comes at a very reasonable price.

Now that they’re recognizing steam canning as effective again, I have my eye on this one as well to round out my canning options!
Garden Apron – Every time I’ve gone out to the garden this past season, I’ve wished I had an apron that could hold all the things I end up picking! I found this one that has a handy quick release pocket at the bottom, so you just stuff it full and then undo the clips to let everything slide into your bigger box or container! So handy!
Jar Sealer for Vacuum Sealing Jars – Now that we have a freeze dryer, I’ve been packaging a lot of things in Mylar, using oxygen absorbers for long term food storage. But some of the freeze dried foods I’ll use up within the next year, so there’s no need for mylar. I want this Jar sealer attachment so I can store my freeze dried foods in mason jars on the shelf for easy access while I’m cooking!
